Box or Four Square Breathing

Mindfulness has recently become more popular and helpful in our world of constant information. Mindfullness is the practice of focusing all  our thought on our bodies and feelings and excluding all outside “noise”. Its like a quick more user friendly form of meditation! Studies show it reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and increases feelings of happiness. It is a great way for us to get in touch with our bodies and actually listen to what is it telling us. Four square breathing is very simple and easy to do anywhere.

1.     Slowly exhale all your air through your mouth to the count of four

2.     Slowly inhale through your nose to the count of four

3.     Hold you breath in your lungs and diaphram to the count of four.

4.     Again slowly exhale through your mouth to the count of four.

While you are doing this you can focus on filling and emptying your lungs and focusing on the numbers 1-4. This will help clear your mind of other distractions, its something I practice when I’m having hard time falling sleep. Give it a try tonight or right now!!
